Head of Organizing Committee 2018: Raymond Ledwaba

In April 2017 we announced that the MBA World Summit 2018 is coming to Cape Town (South Africa) with you heading the Organizing Committee 2018. Would you mind sharing a few thoughts with us?

I’m very excited about the 2018 MBA World Summit! 2018 will be the Summit’s 5th year anniversary and we are planning exciting partnerships that will make the 2018 Summit the most memorable and impactful Summit to date!

Since the Summit is coming to the continent of Africa in 2018, and seeing that Africa has 4 of the fastest growing economies in the world, I believe that the MBA World Summit is a great platform to explore the endless opportunities that abound on the continent. The Summit is also an opportunity for participants to collaborate with other institutions and tackle key social challenges faced in Africa and other emerging markets around the world. Stay tuned for more updates regarding the 2018 MBA World Summit. Please feel free to reach out to me anytime if you have ideas that would make the summit spectacular or if you would like to get involved in the planning of the Summit. My email address is

You attended the MBA World Summit in 2015 in Barcelona, in 2016 in Miami, and 2017 in Berlin. What were your key takeaways from these three Summits?

Attending the MBA World Summit was a life-changing event for me. The experience of being around the world’s most tal- ented and brightest future business leaders is very dif cult to explain in words. I mean, where do I even start? The peo- ple I met at the Summit and have built friendships with will always have a special place in my heart. What I found truly incredible is the fact that regardless of where we all come from around the world, we all share similar desires, fears, aspirations and anxieties. We actually have more similarities than we do differences.

I’m very glad to be part of this incredible network of change agents and I can’t wait to see everyone in Berlin next year.

Raymond's speech at the MBA World Summit 2017 in Berlin:

Day 1 - Wed, 14th Mar 2018

Cultural Expeditions

Exciting adventures to the city‘s cultural hotspots and heritage sites. The expeditions are perfect „ice-breakers“ and a special opportunity to build first meaningful relationships in a comfortable, informal and inspirational setting.

Opening Panel & Welcome Reception

All the participants - selected MBA students,  Summit Alumni and company representatives - come together for the first time to get to know each other and engage in first conversations.

Day 2 - Thu, 15th Mar 2018

Welcoming & Keynotes

Using the facilities of UCT Business School, all participants get together to kick-off the 3 day event.

Summit Laboratory Sessions (SLS)

MBA students conduct experimental ‘lab sessions’ – lectures, workshops, ‘talk-shops’ or ‘think-tanks’ designed to inspire and incite intense discussion and best-practice-sharing. These student speakers have complete control over the creative direction of their proposed topics, which are screened, selected and then refined by the organizing committee prior to the Summit.

Company Presentations

A dedicated time slot allotted to partner companies to present their career opportunities and business model. Partner companies benefit by building positive employer brand value through word-of-mouth propagation within the personal networks of these top MBA students.

The Big Idea Lounge

Entrepreneurial MBA-students meet with like-minded peers as well as VC-managers, Investors and the who-is-who of the host city’s top-entrepreneurs in an exclusive setting to engage into in-depth discussions about on-going business topics, share best-practices, seek mutual inspiration and discuss future-business opportunities.

Face-to-face Interviews

Company representatives conduct in-depth interviews with pre-selected candidates in order to recruit students for suitable positions - in parallel throughout the day.

Tim-Eisenmann-Award Ceremony

A relaxed time to unwind after the day’s events, engage in informal discussions and present the “Tim-Eisenmann-Award” to the most popular student-led workshop. This award is named after 2014’s inaugural winner.

Networking Dinner

A comfortable setting for candidates and company representatives to engage in private and in-depth discussion on business and career related issues over an enjoyable networking dinner.

Day 3 - Fri, 16th Mar 2018

Social Impact Day

More than ever, responsibility for our planet and society is an important theme for us all. That’s why the MBA World Summit enables students to take a deeper look at social impact issues, gain first-hand experience in the field and become actively involved in meaningful local and international projects contributing their expertise and experience to a meaningful purpose.

Corporate Expeditions

Company representatives may invite a pre-selected group of up to 10 MBA students on a tour of their local office. This presents a powerful opportunity to orientate candidates to the company culture and leave a positive and indelible impression of the employer brand in candidates’ minds.

Networking Lunch & Resolution

A truly unique networking experience reflecting the host city‘s lifestyle: Be surprised for a truly local experience. Personal bonds are strengthened between participants in a relaxed setting that allows them to let their hair down and resolve to remain in contact even after the Summit ends.

"The Melting Pot of Inspiration"

"(...) It took me a while to understand the identity of the participants of the MBA World Summit. There is something in common between the Portuguese innovator studying at CEIBS in Shanghai, the Pakistani engineer studying at NUS in Singapore, the Tanzanian TV personality studying at Stanford in California and the Egyptian-Canadian entrepreneur studying at IE in Madrid. That something is shared by everyone I met at the last two Summits in Miami and Berlin. That something is ‘Inspiration’ (...)"
